TV Buying Guide

TV Buying Guide

When selling TVs, it’s important to know their features and characteristics. Your clients will expect you to be aware of such information. Here’s a guide by DK Wholesale to help you navigate two key aspects people should take into consideration when buying their TV.

Screen size

No matter what your customers might be looking for – a basic or a high-performance TV – the most important factor they need to take into consideration is the screen size. They have to be able to fit their future TV in their home, so size is a key aspect. If you’re discussing with your clients, ask them to think about how many people are usually watching at the same time in their household.

You should also clarify where it is that they want to place their newest purchase. Your customer’s budget is just as significant to consider when you’re talking to them about their set. These days, considering price, performance, and standard living room size, anything from 55 to 65 inches should work. The size of your client’s future TV screen will also depend on the distance between the watchers and the set.

Inform your customers that if they are able to see individual pixels on their latest screen, they're way too close. Let them know that people should normally sit at a distance that’s three times the screen’s height for HD and just 1.5 times for 4K Ultra HD. Tell the client that they can sit twice as close to a 4K UHD TV set. It all comes down to their preferences and habits, but you should be able to offer this information when someone comes to your shop looking for a new TV set.

Screen resolution

As a retailer selling TV sets, you should know that resolution refers to the number of pixels that make up the picture on a display in terms of horizontal rows and vertical columns. More pixels mean better quality – sharper pictures and finer details – so higher resolution is typically better.

The 1920 x 1080 resolution, also called Full HD, used to be the standard. These days, manufacturers seem to be favouring Ultra HD sets, also called 4K. The 4K screens have four times more pixels than basic HDTV models. In numbers, this translates to 2,160 horizontal lines (3840 x 2160 pixels). The biggest advantage of 4K TV sets is the fact that small objects look more detailed and life-like and text appears sharper, as well. These details may be subtle, but they do make a difference.
